Take the Next Step in Your Construction Career
At Target Zero Training, we help construction professionals move from supervision to leadership. Our CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course is the essential qualification for anyone responsible for managing health and safety on construction sites.
Delivered by experienced trainers, this five-day course gives you the knowledge and confidence to lead safely, meet legal requirements, and demonstrate competence to employers and clients.
Why the SMSTS Qualification Matters
The SMSTS is one of the most recognised and respected management-level health and safety courses in the UK construction industry. Completing it shows that you can:
- Plan, manage, monitor and coordinate safety on site.
- Understand relevant legislation, including the Health and Safety at Work Act and CDM Regulations.
- Create and maintain a positive safety culture within your teams.
- Meet the expectations of principal contractors and clients for managerial competence.
Once you’ve passed, your certificate is valid for five years, keeping you qualified and compliant on every project you manage.
What You’ll Learn
Our CITB SMSTS course combines real-world examples with expert instruction from seasoned construction professionals. You’ll learn how to:
- Develop safe systems of work for all major site activities.
- Conduct effective risk assessments and implement method statements.
- Control subcontractor operations and ensure compliance with safety procedures.
- Handle environmental, welfare, and legal responsibilities confidently.
- Lead site teams with professionalism and accountability.
You’ll also complete a short assessment at the end of the course to validate your learning and gain your official CITB SMSTS certificate.
