In the construction industry, safety isn’t just a priority – it’s a legal and moral responsibility. For site managers, supervisors, and project leaders, the CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is one of the most important qualifications you can hold. But with demanding schedules and ongoing projects, many professionals find it difficult to commit to classroom training.
That’s where flexible online SMSTS learning comes in – providing all the benefits of CITB-approved training, but in a format that fits around your busy work life.
What Is the SMSTS Online Course?
The SMSTS online course is a CITB-approved 5-day training programme designed for site managers, agents, and anyone responsible for organising, planning, and monitoring construction site safety.
Delivered through live, interactive online sessions, it covers essential topics such as:
- Construction health and safety legislation
- Risk assessments and method statements
- Managing subcontractors safely
- Site inductions and toolbox talks
- Accident investigation and reporting
- Legal responsibilities of a site manager
Upon successful completion, you’ll receive the official CITB SMSTS certificate, valid for five years.

- Learn from anywhere – at home, in the office, or even onsite.
- Save travel time and costs by connecting remotely.
- Balance training with work commitments – no need to take extended time off.
- Join small, interactive groups led by experienced tutors.
- Access the same CITB-approved content as classroom learners.
This flexibility makes online SMSTS courses particularly valuable for busy site managers who need to keep projects moving while still meeting health and safety obligations.
