In the fast-moving world of construction, strong supervision is the key to safety and success. The SSSTS Course, also known as the Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme, gives supervisors the skills and knowledge they need to lead teams confidently and maintain safe working environments.
Whether you are new to supervision or looking to formalise your experience with an accredited qualification, the SSSTS Course delivered by Target Zero Training is the perfect next step in your career.
What Is the SSSTS Course?
The SSSTS Course is a two-day training programme accredited by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB). It is designed for site supervisors, foremen, and team leaders who are responsible for monitoring workers and ensuring health and safety compliance on site.
The course covers:
- The legal responsibilities of supervisors
- Health and safety management systems
- Risk assessments and method statements
- Effective communication with site teams
- Environmental awareness and best practice
- How to deliver toolbox talks and daily briefings
By the end of the SSSTS Course, delegates gain a solid understanding of their duties under the Health and Safety at Work Act, empowering them to identify hazards early and prevent accidents before they happen.
Why the SSSTS Course Matters
1. Strengthens On-Site Safety Leadership
Supervisors are the link between site management and workers. The SSSTS Course gives you the leadership tools to enforce safety policies, encourage safe behaviour, and respond quickly to risks.
2. Reduces Accidents and Legal Risks
By learning how to implement safety standards and maintain compliance, supervisors can help reduce the likelihood of workplace incidents. This protects both workers and employers from costly delays, investigations, and legal action.
3. Boosts Career Progression
Holding the SSSTS qualification shows employers that you are serious about safety and ready for more responsibility. Many construction companies now require supervisors to have an SSSTS certificate before taking charge of site teams.
What Happens After the SSSTS Course?
Once you pass the final assessment, you will receive a CITB certificate valid for five years. Before it expires, you can refresh your qualification by taking the SSSTS Refresher Course to stay up to date with the latest regulations.
Many delegates later progress to the SMSTS Course, which is designed for site managers and project leaders, or choose to build on their supervisory experience by completing an NVQ in Construction Site Supervision.
