Is an SMSTS Course Online CITB Approved as Valid as Classroom Training?

At Target Zero, one of the most common questions we hear is: “If I take the SMSTS course online, will it be as valid as the classroom version?”

The answer is a clear yes. When you complete your SMSTS course with us online, it is CITB approved and carries exactly the same recognition as our classroom training. The qualification, certificate and credibility are identical. That is why we are trusted by over 8,000 learners across the UK to deliver their training.

Accreditation That Matters

Every SMSTS course we run, online or in person, is fully approved by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB).

That means:

• You gain the same nationally recognised certificate
• Your qualification is valid for five years
• Employers accept it as completely equivalent to classroom training

There is no distinction on the certificate itself. Choosing Target Zero means joining thousands of learners who already trust us for their safety and management training.

The Same Content, Delivered Online

CITB requires all providers to follow the same syllabus. That means you cover essential topics such as:

• Health and safety law and regulations
• CDM responsibilities
• Risk assessments and method statements
• Fire safety and working at height
• Environmental and behavioural safety

With Target Zero, the online SMSTS course is delivered live by experienced tutors, ensuring real-time interaction, group tasks and expert guidance in the same way as a classroom course.

Why Thousands Choose Online with Target Zero

We have supported over 8,000 learners nationwide, and many now prefer online training because it offers:

• Convenience – no travel and no time away from home or site
• Cost savings – no accommodation, fuel or parking costs
• Flexibility – frequent course dates to suit your schedule

The online experience is designed to make your learning journey easier without compromising quality.

When the Classroom Works Best

Some delegates prefer the traditional setting of a classroom. Benefits include:

• Face-to-face networking with other managers
• A more immersive learning environment
• Fewer distractions compared to studying from home

That is why we continue to deliver both options so you can choose the format that suits you best.

The Target Zero Promise

When you book your SMSTS online course with Target Zero, you will benefit from:

• CITB-approved accreditation
• Expert tutors with real-world site management experience
• High pass rates with full learner support

Conclusion

Yes, an SMSTS course online with Target Zero is just as valid as a classroom course. The certificate is the same, the recognition is the same and the career opportunities are the same.
