Level 6 NVQ Occupational Health and Safety: Achieve CMIOSH Without Exams

If you are a health and safety professional ready to progress your career, the Level 6 NVQ Occupational Health and Safety qualification offers a direct and flexible route to professional recognition. Delivered entirely online with no exams, this work-based qualification is designed to help experienced practitioners gain Chartered Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH) through real-world evidence of competence.

Why Choose a Level 6 NVQ in Occupational Health and Safety

The Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Practice is equivalent to a full bachelor's degree and is recognised by IOSH and other leading bodies. Completing this qualification allows you to apply for Graduate IOSH status, paving the way towards full Chartered Membership. Unlike traditional academic routes, the NVQ is practical, portfolio-based, and designed around your working life.

You do not need to take time off work. You do not need to sit formal exams. You simply demonstrate your ability to maintain safe working practices in your current role, supported by expert assessors who guide you through the process.

What Makes This NVQ Different from Traditional Qualifications

This qualification is based entirely on real-world performance. You will build a portfolio of evidence from your day-to-day responsibilities, showing how you manage health and safety systems, support risk assessments, lead incident investigations, ensure compliance, and influence safety culture across your organisation.

You can study flexibly at your own pace, making it perfect for professionals who cannot commit to full-time study. Your Target Zero assessor will work with you one-to-one, reviewing your evidence, offering guidance, and helping you stay on track for successful completion.

Progress to CMIOSH with Confidence

The Level 6 NVQ Occupational Health and Safety qualification meets the academic requirements for Graduate IOSH membership. From there, you can begin the Initial Professional Development (IPD) phase with IOSH, ultimately leading to Chartered Membership (CMIOSH). This is a widely respected status that can boost your professional credibility, earning potential, and access to leadership roles in health and safety.

Many of our learners are already working in roles such as Health and Safety Manager, Site Safety Advisor, or Compliance Lead. This qualification validates your competence and supports your progression without disrupting your career.

Who Should Take the Level 6 NVQ

This qualification is ideal for experienced professionals who are already working in a health and safety role and want to achieve a recognised qualification without returning to classroom learning. It suits those who want a structured pathway to CMIOSH and need a qualification that reflects their real-world knowledge.

Typical candidates include health and safety officers, site safety managers, compliance leads, project safety consultants, and anyone responsible for safety systems within their organisation.

If you are applying for or renewing a Black CSCS Card as a site manager or senior safety lead, this qualification also meets the criteria.

Study Flexibly Around Your Work

Target Zero’s online delivery model means you can complete the NVQ anywhere in the UK, with no need to travel or take time away from work. You will access your portfolio through our online platform, upload evidence at your own pace, and receive ongoing support from a qualified assessor.

Because the NVQ is based entirely on your current role, the process feels relevant, practical, and achievable. Most learners complete the course within six to twelve months, depending on work commitments and the volume of evidence submitted.
