In the construction industry, maintaining safe and compliant worksites isn’t just a legal requirement — it’s a professional responsibility. The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is one of the most recognised qualifications in the UK for site managers, supervisors and anyone with health and safety responsibilities on construction projects.
At Target Zero Training, we deliver CITB SMSTS Courses both online and in person, helping professionals across the UK develop the confidence and competence needed to lead safe, compliant and productive sites.
What Is an SMSTS Course?
The SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) is a five-day training programme designed by the CITB to equip site managers and supervisors with the knowledge to implement and manage health and safety best practices on construction sites.
The course covers key topics such as:
- Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations
- Risk assessment and method statements
- Site induction and toolbox talks
- Accident investigation and reporting
- Environmental awareness
- Roles and responsibilities for health and safety management
By completing the course, you’ll gain the knowledge to protect your workforce, reduce accidents and maintain compliance with UK construction legislation.
Who Should Take the SMSTS Course?
This course is ideal for:
- Site managers and aspiring site managers
- Project managers and supervisors
- Health and safety officers
- Clients and contractors overseeing multiple teams
If you’re progressing from a supervisory role or planning to move into site management, SMSTS is the perfect next step in your career.
