What Is the SMSTS Online Refresher Course?
The CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is one of the most respected health and safety qualifications for site managers in the UK. It demonstrates competence, responsibility and leadership in maintaining a safe construction environment.
Your SMSTS certificate is valid for five years, after which you must complete a SMSTS Online Refresher Course to keep your qualification current. This refresher ensures you remain compliant with CITB and HSE standards while maintaining your leadership credentials.
Why It’s Important to Refresh Your SMSTS Qualification
Stay Legally Compliant
The construction industry is heavily regulated, and legislation changes regularly. Keeping your SMSTS certification up to date ensures you continue to meet your legal duties as a site manager or supervisor.
Avoid Retaking the Full Course
If your certificate expires, you’ll need to retake the full CITB SMSTS Training Course, which is five days long. The refresher course takes just two days, saving valuable time and money.
Keep Your Knowledge Current
Refreshing your SMSTS qualification helps you stay aligned with the latest site safety protocols, CITB standards and best practices in risk management and leadership.
Why Choose the Online Delivery Option
Target Zero’s SMSTS Online Refresher course is delivered live by experienced tutors via video conferencing. You’ll join a real classroom environment online, interact with your trainer, ask questions and participate in discussions — all without leaving your home or office.
All you need is a laptop, webcam and stable internet connection. This makes it ideal for busy site managers who want to stay certified with minimal disruption to their schedule.
What You’ll Learn During the Refresher Course
- Latest HSE updates and legal changes affecting construction management
- Risk assessment and method statement requirements
