If your SMSTS certificate is due for renewal in 2026, you may be asking:
What is the best value SMSTS Refresher course in the UK?
You’re not alone.
Keeping your SMSTS qualification current is essential for site safety, legal compliance and career progression. But with a wide range of prices and providers out there, it can be hard to know which refresher course offers the best return on your investment.
In this guide we break down the real SMSTS Refresher prices, compare the most common options, and show why Target Zero Training offers the best value in the UK.
What Is an SMSTS Refresher Course?
An SMSTS Refresher course is designed to renew your existing Site Management Safety Training Scheme certificate.
It updates your understanding of:
- Current legislation
- Risk management
- Site safety culture
- Leadership and compliance
- Site management best practice
Instead of repeating the full 5-day SMSTS course, the refresher provides focused updates so you can extend your certificate for another five years.

How SMSTS Refresher Prices Vary Across the UK
In 2026, SMSTS Refresher prices typically range between:
- Budget providers – around £180 to £220 plus VAT
- Standard training companies – £220 to £300 plus VAT
- Premium courses with extras – £300 plus VAT and above
Be cautious: some providers charge more but don’t include exam support, study materials or trainer expertise.
With Target Zero, the price you see includes:
Verified CITB approval
Full course materials
Experienced trainers
Certificate processing
Ongoing support
Why Price Alone Doesn’t Tell the Full Story
Focusing solely on the lowest price can leave you with:
Limited support before and after the course
No quality exam preparation
Inexperienced trainers
Hidden costs (materials, extras)
A good refresher course should help you pass confidently and stay compliant.
That is why value matters more than just cost.
Comparing SMSTS Refresher With Other Course Options
Here’s how a refresher fits into the wider safety training pathway:
| Course | Typical Price | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| SMSTS Refresher | from £199 + VAT | Renew your SMSTS qualification efficiently |
| SMSTS Full Course | from £435 + VAT | Full qualification for new site managers |
| SSSTS Course | from £199 + VAT | Health and safety for site supervisors |
| SSSTS Refresher | from £165 + VAT | Renew your SSSTS qualification |
| CITB HSA | from £135 + VAT | Entry level awareness training |
If you already hold SMSTS, the refresher is by far the most cost-effective route to staying compliant without repeating the full course.
