Supervising a construction site is a big responsibility. Not only are you expected to keep projects running smoothly, but you’re also accountable for the safety and wellbeing of your team. That’s why the SSSTS course – the Site Supervisors’ Safety Training Scheme – is a qualification every site supervisor should have.
At Target Zero Training, we deliver CITB-accredited SSSTS courses across the UK, helping thousands of supervisors build their careers while maintaining the highest safety standards on site.
What is the SSSTS course?
The SSSTS course is a two-day programme created by CITB for site supervisors. It’s designed to give you a clear understanding of:
- Health and safety legislation relevant to your role.
- How to carry out risk assessments effectively.
- Your responsibilities as a supervisor in promoting safe working practices.
- Environmental awareness and site welfare obligations.
Completing the SSSTS training leads to a recognised CITB SSSTS certificate, valid for five years.
Why site supervisors can’t afford to skip SSSTS training
1. Legal and professional compliance
Construction is one of the UK’s most heavily regulated industries. The SSSTS course ensures supervisors understand their legal duties and can demonstrate compliance to employers and inspectors.
2. Career progression
Holding an SSSTS certificate is often a requirement for supervisory roles. It shows you’re trained, competent and serious about your career in construction management.
3. Improved site safety
Accidents and incidents on site can be costly and dangerous. The SSSTS course equips supervisors with the skills to lead by example, manage teams safely, and reduce workplace risks.
4. Pathway to management qualifications
For those aiming to progress further, the SSSTS course is the ideal foundation before moving on to the SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) qualification.
